Tiny Real-Life 'Dragon' Photographed In Indonesia

A Reddit user by the name of Biophilia_curiosus posted a few photos that he took in Indonesia. They show an amazing species of gliding lizard which basically looks like a miniature dragon.
Fans of the film Avatar will be reminded of the flying Toruks.

The crazy part is that those lines you see running through the wings like veins are actually its ribs! Evolution did a number on these guys.
They can expand and contract their chests at will to glide great distances.

The photos were taken in Buton, Indonesia, in the Lambusango Forest Reserve
As far as I can tell, nobody has identified the exact species of this lizard, but they are still incredible little creatures!

You might think that someone photoshopped this rooster but you in for a surprise here. The black bird is real and it is a very special Asian breed.
Ayam Cemani is a rare breed rooster that is common for Indonesia. The word “Ayam” means chicken in the traditional Javanese language and “Cemani” translates to “total black”.

Not only is the rooster black from the outside but even the meat, bones, and organs are also black. But despite many rumours, the blood of the Ayam Cemani is not black (though it is very dark).

The birds get their black colouring from a natural genetic trait known as ‘fibromelanosis’.

Just one of these chickens costs between $1999 and $2500. Many of the people who buy them think the Ayam Cemani brings luck to the household.

The Fish Whose Mind You Can Read

At first glance, this may seem like a CGI image of a creature from a fantasy movie. This is in fact the Barreleye or 'spook fish' as it is often jokingly called.
Its name derives from their barrel-shaped, tubular eyes. These are generally directed upwards to detect the silhouettes of prey, however, it is now believed that the fish can move its eyes forwards too.
Using remotely operated underwater vehicles , scientists from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute first captured moving images to the creature in 2009, with still images having been captured in 2004.

Little is known about the fishes reproductive habits, although there is some evidence to suggest that it is a pelagic spawner; meaning it's eggs and sperm are released directly into the water where they then fertilise.
Few efforts have been made to extract the fish from its natural habitat despite it being known about since 1939.

Tuxedo Cat

Here is a pet portrait I have just about finished of Lucie the Tuxedo Cat. She has been fun to paint, I've included lots of colours in her coat even though she is a black and white cat. She started off with a bright blue bib, and if you look closely you will find some purple here and there. The owner is pleased with the result and said I caught her likeness. Here is the painting and the photo I worked from, having never met her.

Take Inspiration from the Two Grandest Wine Cellars around the World

Wine speaks of luxury, class and sophistication. It is surely not everyone’s capability to understand the fineness of a glass of a crisp vintage wine. Wine is not just any other beverage that you can drink at any point of your life. Wine demands attention, leisure and appreciation. When you are sitting in your lounge, reading a hardback book and contemplating life, a goblet of wine can be your best companion. Are you thinking, you can drink it with a few sips? No, wine is not meant for gobbling like that. Picking up the glass, examining it against the light, admiring the swirling beauty in the glass, taking a slow sip, letting it come to the temperature of mouth and finally swallowing it, all of these steps can help you in relishing the beauty called wine. Needless to say, preserving such an asset needs inspiration.
Are you planning a custom wine room in your home? As you already know that you have quite priceless assets in those bottles at your disposal, you need to think of a perfect place to preserve them and if necessary, let them age. That place, the cellar has to be classy, sophisticated and should reflect the personality of your house too. Do you need some inspiration to design such a cellar? If yes, then read on to know about some of the stunning cellars. Your head might buzz to see the grandeur of these places, but I am sure you will love them.
Crown Wine Cellar Hong Kong
If you are thinking of an unconventional wine cellar, then the first name that crosses my mind is the Crown Wine Cellar in Hong Kong. It is a discreetly hidden place in the Southern part of Hong Kong. Buried 60 feet under the ground, this cellar is actually built in a former military bunker. It can be accessed through concrete tunnels that lead you to 1,000 sq ft chambers guarded by 3 feet reinforced concrete walls. Though rugged from outside, the cellar has the state-of-art interior. A perfect cooling unit takes care of the environment. If you are blessed with such a huge basement, turn it in a grand cellar of your dream with a cooling unit, wine cellar racks and insulation. Think of the rugged exterior too, as it will suit the ancient charm.
Mileștii Mici, Moldova
If you are thinking that the largest wine cellar will be somewhere in Italy or France, then you are mistaken. The largest jewel is situated in a small country of Moldova. It contains the highest numbers of bottles. This 34 miles long wine cellar, houses 1.3 millions of bottles that have been accumulated since 1968. Take inspiration from the ancient looking interior. Your wine room can look like this place with built-in custom wine rack. Undoubtedly, you will lure all your guests with the charm of such a cellar. Also, add limestone and cooling unit to make it the best place for preserving wine.
So, when you have these ideas of two beautiful wine cellars, what are you waiting for? Hire a team of designers, shop for doors, metal wine racks and cooling unit, and realize the dream of having an envious wine cellar.

No Funeral/Livid: Split LP

Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota are doom bringers and misery merchants No Funeral and Livid. Above is the cover art for their brand new split that contains three songs, two by No Funeral and one by Livd. Both bands play a similar style of sludge infused doom and both styles are incredibly heavy, dismal, abyssal and murky. These two bands bring a sound that is undeniably heavy and skull grinding and within three songs No Funeral and Livid bring the misery and pain in heaps.
This brand new split begins with Infection by No Funeral, an over eight minute slab of some of the most dismal and destructive doom you can get your hands on. The song begins with a low ominous hum of a guitar which spans across a minute and a half before the pounding drums and tolling bells appear providing you with a sound that makes you feel as though your life may just come to an abrupt end. Once you get deeper into Infection the song begins to breath and take off gifting you with slow dirges of bleak and completely hellish doom. No Funeral keeps Infection rolling at a slow burning pace making sure to drag you across the burning fields of the abyss as slow as possible. The guitars rumble and the vocalist roars blood thirsty growls all the way through until the track fades away into obscurity just for Disease Brought By Depression to begin.
This second track by No Funeral is more of the same and more of what you would come to expect from these doom bringers. Disease Brought By Depression is introduced by another ominous intro that is followed by slow mind melting riffs that are combined with once again pounding and bone cracking drums only to be supplemented by grizzly unearthly growls. This track much like the first by No Funeral is just as dismal and bleak providing you with even more anguished and torturous doom for you to buckle under. Not to mention, whether No Funeral meant to or not, within each song is a dense and twisting atmosphere that does its best to asphyxiate you. Once you press play a cold and horrid fog washes over you through both tracks leaving you feel as though death is lurking.
On the B-Side of things and to finish things off Livid presents No Hope. No Hope is an eighteen minute slab dragging track that presents you with a dark and mystifying tune for you to get lost in. Armed with fuzz lined riffs, rumbling bass lines and hypnotizing vocals, Livid takes you straight in to the darkness devoid of all light never for you to be seen again. No Hope paints a bleak and disparaging picture as it takes you through the dark and deep corners of your mind. No Hope is a memorable song even at the length that it is. Once you begin listening it is a song that is hard to forget and once you begin listening you become trapped in its vortex of doom. No Hope is a hypnotic dirge of doom that leads you right into a bottomless pit of despair and isolation. This track does a great job of leaving you feeling alone and bitter. This murky offering is a slow and somber march toward death and while listening you have no issues marching along. And even at this song’s length you never feel as though it is a burden to keep listening and you never want to stop listening. No Hope is a great closing track to this split with No Funeral as it makes you feel as though you are finally being laid to rest in the fetid dirt.
This split between these two abyss dwellers is something to behold. This split is monolithic, heavy and an overall great listen. Both bands have tracks on this release that are great and pure doom misery at its finest and if you are a fan of doom it really cannot get any better than this.

Baked Alaska

Chocolate cake with vanilla, strawberry and mango ice cream covered with toasted meringue frosting.

Ingredients (one 8-inch cake):

Chocolate Cake Base
1 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large egg, room temperature
1/2 cup sour cream, room temperature
1/4 cup canola oil
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup boiling water
Ice Cream
9 cups vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup strawberry puree
1/2 cup mango puree
Meringue Frosting
1/4 cup sugar
2 large egg whites
1 tablespoon water

Directions:

To prepare the cake, preheat oven to 350F. Grease an 8-inch cake pan and line bottom with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, mix together sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Crack in the egg, spoon in the sour cream, and pour in the oil and the vanilla. Mix with a wooden spoon until just combined.
Pour in the boiling water, and slowly mix until smooth and liquidy.
Pour batter into the prepared cake pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.
Place the cakes (in the pans) on a wire rack to cool. Then invert the cakes onto a greased rack. Cool completely. Then slice cake layers in half horizontally. Reserve one layer for future use.
To prepare ice cream, let ice cream sit in room temperature for 10 minutes to soften. Scoop 3 cups of vanilla ice cream, and mix in with the strawberry puree to make strawberry ice cream. Add mango puree in another 3 cups of vanilla ice cream to make mango ice cream.
To assemble, lightly grease a 3-quart bowl and line with plastic wrap with overhang long enough to cover the top. Fill the base of the bowl with strawberry ice cream, followed by mango ice cream and the remaining vanilla ice cream. (if ice cream becomes too soft, chill each layer in the freezer for 10 minutes before adding another layer)
Top the ice cream with the chocolate layer cake. Cover the cake with plastic wrap overhang. Return it to the freezer and freeze at least 4 hours.
To prepare frosting, in a large heatproof bowl, beat sugar with a handheld electric mixer for a minute until foamy. Increase speed and add sugar slowly while beating. Continue beating until meringue becomes stiff and glossy.
Remove the ice cream cake from the freezer. Invert the cake onto a serving plate and wrap a hot kitchen towel around the bowl for 20 seconds. Loosen the bowl and remove the plastic wrap.
Smear the meringue frosting thickly on the top and sides of the cake. Using a small metal spatula to create swoops and peaks.
Using a kitchen torch, lightly brown the frosting. Serve right away.

LOW CARB, SUGAR-FREE PUMPKIN SCONES

The low carb life has been treating me very well. I've lost all the excess of my baby weight, plus some (20 lbs total) and kept it off since I started the lifestyle change in April.
The one thing I have missed is baked goods, and since autumn is here, I am looking to fix that. Problem is, low carb, alternative flours are kind of pricey. I found Bob's Red Mill super fine almond flour at Walmart for fairly cheap, so I went that route for these pumpkin scones.
So far I've found that using only almond flour makes for a somewhat strange texture, so I also use a teensy bit of all-purpose flour to make things hang together a bit better. Even with this change, these scones are still about 10 net carbs each.
Texturally, these are way closer to carb-laden scones than I thought they'd be, and that makes me really REALLY happy!

Because I hate excess mumbo jumbo (We all know you are here for this recipe) here are the other ingredients and the steps!
LOW CARB, SUGAR-FREE PUMPKIN SCONES
makes 5 scones
1/2 cup pure pumpkin (not pie filling)
2 Tbsp butter
1 egg
1/3 cup chopped pecans or roasted, salted pumpkin seeds
1 1/4 cups almond flour
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup Splenda
1/2 Tbsp baking powder
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch salt
Cream cheese glaze, optional:
2 Tbsp cream cheese
Splenda and cream (or milk) to taste and consistency.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Mix wet ingredients first, then add in dry ingredients and mix well. These are drop scones (since the batter is a little wet) so drop 5 evenly sized dollops onto your cookie sheet and bake for 20- 23 minutes.
Cool for a few minutes, and then drizzle on the glaze. Enjoy!

Black Seed – ‘The Remedy For Everything But Death

Sayer Ji, Founder
This article is copyrighted by GreenMedInfo LLC, 2015
This humble, but immensely powerful seed, kills MRSA, heals the chemical weapon poisoned body, stimulates regeneration of the dying beta cells within the diabetic’s pancreas, and yet too few even know it exists.
Benefits of Black Seed
The seeds of the annual flowering plant, Nigella Sativa, have been prized for their healing properties since time immemorial. While frequently referred to among English-speaking cultures as Roman coriander, black sesame, black cumin, black caraway and onion seed, it is known today primarily as black seed, which is at the very least an accurate description of its physical appearance. The earliest record of its cultivation and use come from ancient Egypt.
Black seed oil, in fact, was found in Egyptian pharoah Tutankhamun’s tomb, dating back to approximately 3,300 years ago.[i] In Arabic cultures, black cumin is known as Habbatul barakah, meaning the “seed of blessing.” It is also believed that the Islamic prophet Mohammed said of it that it is ”a remedy for all diseases except death.”
Many of black cumin’s traditionally ascribed health benefits have been thoroughly confirmed in the biomedical literature. In fact, since 1964, there have been 656 published, peer-reviewed studies referencing it.
We have indexed salient research, available to view on GreenMedInfo.com on our Black Seed (Nigella Sativa) page, on well over 40 health conditions that may be benefited from the use of the herb, including over 20 distinct pharmacological actions it expresses, such as:
Analgesic (Pain-Killing)
Anti-Bacterial
Anti-Inflammatory
Anti-Ulcer
Anti-Cholinergic
Anti-Fungal
Ant-Hypertensive
Antioxidant
Antispasmodic
Antiviral
Bronchodilator
Gluconeogenesis Inhibitor (Anti-Diabetic)
Hepatoprotective (Liver Protecting)
Hypotensive
Insulin Sensitizing
Interferon Inducer
Leukotriene Antagonist
Renoprotective (Kidney Protecting)
Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha Inhibitor
These 30 pharmacological actions are only a subset of a far wider number of beneficial properties intrinsic to the black seed. While it is remarkable that this seed has the ability to positively modulate so many different biological pathways, this is actually a rather common occurrence among traditional plant medicines.
Natural RX: Greenmedinfo
Our project has identified over 1600 natural compounds with a wide range of health benefits, and we are only in our first 5 years of casual indexing. There are tens of thousands of other substances that have already been researched, with hundreds of thousands of studies supporting their medicinal value (MEDLINE, whence our study abstracts come, has over 600,000 studies classified as related to Complementary and Alternative Medicine).
Take turmeric, for example. We have identified research indicating its value in over 600 health conditions, while also expressing over 160 different potentially beneficial pharmacological actions. You can view the quick summary of over 1500 studies we have summarized on our Turmeric Research page, which includes an explorative video on turmeric. Professional database members are further empowered to manipulate the results according to their search criteria, i.e. pull up and print to PDF the 61 studies on turmeric and breast cancer. This, of course, should help folks realize how voluminous the supportive literature indicating the medicinal value of natural substances, such as turmeric and black seed, really is.
Black seed has been researched for very specific health conditions. Some of the most compelling applications include:
Type 2 Diabetes: Two grams of black seed a day resulted in reduced fasting glucose, decreased insulin resistance, increased beta-cell function, and reduced glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in human subjects.[ii]
Helicobacter Pylori Infection: Black seeds possess clinically useful anti-H. pylori activity, comparable to triple eradication therapy.[iii]
Epilepsy: Black seeds were traditionally known to have anticonvulsive properties. A 2007 study with epileptic children, whose condition was refractory to conventional drug treatment, found that a water extract significantly reduced seizure activity.[iv]
High Blood pressure: The daily use of 100 and 200 mg of black seed extract, twice daily, for 2 months, was found to have a blood pressure-lowering effect in patients with mild hypertension.[v]
Asthma: Thymoquinone, one of the main active constituents within Nigella sativa (black cumin), is superior to the drug fluticasone in an animal model of asthma.[vi] Another study, this time in human subjects, found that boiled water extracts of black seed have relatively potent anti-asthmatic effect on asthmatic airways.[vii]
Acute tonsillopharyngitis: characterized by tonsil or pharyngeal inflammation (i.e. sore throat), mostly viral in origin, black seed capsules (in combination with Phyllanthus niruri) have been found to significantly alleviate throat pain, and reduce the need for pain-killers, in human subjects.[viii]
Chemical Weapons Injury: A randomized, placebo-controlled human study of chemical weapons injured patients found that boiled water extracts of black seed reduced respiratory symptoms, chest wheezing, and pulmonary function test values, as well as reduced the need for drug treatment.[ix]
Colon Cancer: Cell studies have found that black seed extract compares favorably to the chemoagent 5-fluoruracil in the suppression of colon cancer growth, but with a far higher safety profile.[x] Animal research has found that black seed oil has significant inhibitory effects against colon cancer in rats, without observable side effects.[xi]
MRSA: Black seed has anti-bacterial activity against clinical isolates of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus.[xii]
Opiate Addiction/Withdrawal: A study on 35 opiate addicts found black seed as an effective therapy in long-term treatment of opioid dependence.[xiii]
Black Seed - 'The Remedy For Everything But Death'
Sometimes the biblical reference to ‘faith the size of a mustard seed moving mountains’ comes to mind in connection with natural substances like black seeds. After all, do seeds not contain within them the very hope for continuance of the entire species that bore it? This super-saturated state of the seed, where life condenses itself down into an intensely miniaturized holographic fragment of itself, promising the formation of future worlds within itself, is the very emblem of life’s immense and immortal power.
If we understand the true nature of the seed, how much life (past, present and future) is contained within it, it will not seem so far-fetched that it is capable of conquering antibiotic resistant bacteria, healing the body from chemical weapons poisoning, or stimulate the regeneration of dying insulin-producing beta cells in the diabetic, to name but only a fraction of black seed’s experimentally-confirmed powers.
Moving the mountain of inertia and falsity associated with the conventional concept of disease, is a task well-suited for seeds and not chemicals. The greatest difference, of course, between a seed and a patented synthetic chemical (i.e. pharmaceutical drug), is that Nature (God) made the former, and men with profit-motives and a deranged understanding of the nature of the body made the latter.
The time, no doubt, has come for food, seeds, herbs, plants, sunlight, air, clean water, and yes, love, to assume once again their central place in medicine, which is to say, the art and science of facilitating self-healing within the human body. Failing this, the conventional medical system will crumble under the growing weight of its own corruption, ineptitude, and iatrogenic suffering (and subsequent financial liability) it causes. To the degree that it reforms itself, utilizing non-patented and non-patentable natural compounds with actual healing properties, a brighter future awaits on the horizon. To the degree that it fails, folks will learn to take back control over their health themselves, which is why black seed, and other food-medicines, hold the key to self-empowerment.

What's Really in Your McDonald's Fast Food?

Who doesn’t love some take-out once in a while?
Although we’ve heard a number of nauseating rumours about what’s really potting with our fast-food fixes, it often becomes a blur of diet-related white noise that very easily slips over our heads. Chemicals are chemicals, to a point, and our bodies can handle an incredible amount of pressure from various sources before any true symptoms begin to emerge.
Besides, a hamburger is just some meat and veggies on a roll… and meat and veggies are healthy. So what gives?
                                   Image via Occupy Corporatism.
It all started with the advent of Feminism in the mid-20th century, which provided companies with an opportunity to solve a newly-created, simple household problem – who got the job of cooking. Fast foods became marketed as a form of empowerment for women, manipulating various target markets and rocketing their profits to the astronomical enormity we see today.
However, as these fast foods became more popular and world populations increased exponentially, the methods used to produce these foods became a lot more... generalised. Studies today show that the additives in these fast foods may be both addictive and perhaps even toxic, contributing to the risk of developing Type II Diabetes, heart disease, widespread obesity, various cancers, hormonal disruption and a multitude of other health issues.
So – put down that burger momentarily and be prepared to learn something new. If you’re still keen on it after this post then I give you my blessing to munch to your heart’s content.

The Burger

Beef patty: According to McDonald's themselves, a McDonald's patty is a combination of ammonia (for hygiene purposes), and Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation cows’ meat (delivering a mixture of antibiotics, growth hormones and often dangerous bacteria).
Previously, pink slime was also used to give the meat a healthier pink tinge – but the practice has now thankfully been discontinued.
                                           Image from Amazon AWS.
Bun: A mixture of bleached and refined wheat flour, ammonium chloride (a common ingredient in fireworks and contact explosives), and ammonium sulfate, a regular addition to flame retardant products.
The other ingredients: the ketchup, mustard, gherkins and cheese used in Mcdonald’s hamburgers have all been fortified with a mixture of often preservatives, High Fructose Corn Syrup (responsible for a high proportion of global cases of Diabetes II and obesity cases) and genetically modified ingredients.*
(*Please note: at this point in time, the only concrete proof of GMOs causing any detriment to humans is a high incidence of allergies to the new varieties of protein created by genetic modification. The long-term effects, however, have not been established or tested, and remain to be seen.)

The Fries:

McDonald’s uses only one type of potato, the Russet Burbank, specifically for its length. They refuse to buy potatoes with any blemishes or necrosis visible, so farmers commissioned to grow potatoes for them are forced to use Chlorothanolil, Chlorpyrifos, Pendimethalin, PCNB and 2.4-D on their crops – pesticides that are so toxic that farmers refuse to go into their fields for up to 8 days after crops have been treated with the chemicals.
Once the potatoes are mature, they must be stored in airtight warehouses for 60 days to “de-gas” the tubers and remove toxic chemicals, otherwise they are unfit for consumption.
                                           Image via Fortune.com.
The potatoes are then peeled, cut and treated with dimethylpolysiloxane (also known as anti-foam and commonly added to sealants), and TBHQ (a form of butane that has potentially been linked to asthma, skin conditions, hormonal disruption, and DNA damage) – and then fried in a mixture of safflower, sunflower and canola oils, all of which are treated with the same pesticides used on the potatoes.
So… if you still want that burger, the decision is, of course, entirely up to you. If not, take note of the new golden rule, as propagated by numerous health experts: eat whatever you want, just cook it yourself. That way you have a better idea of what goes into your food, where it comes from and what it’ll do to your body in the long run.
Until next time – stay healthy.
